Investigators still were investigating the circumstances of the fall Saturday evening. It was unclear if anyone else was in the apartment at the time of the fall.

OMG...Russian Scientists Kept a Dog’s Head Alive!

Can a head live without a body? The answer should be simple: yes, but only for a little while. Scientists say that the brain continues to function for about two minutes after the heart stops. But can a lopped off head continue to survive after being completely severed from the body? Many would say no. However, it was widely reported in the media, that a Soviet scientist in the late 1920s by the name of Sergei Brukhonenko actually managed to keep the severed head of a dog alive. The dog’s head was reportedly connected to a primitive heart-lung machine called an “autojector” (or that’s what the inventor dubbed it). The device supposedly gives the head everything it needs to maintain life
Brukhonenko presented a similar experiment in 1928 at an international scientific conference, at the Third Congress of Psysiologists of the USSR. However, his science has often been questioned. As proof of his dog experiment and to show that the head wasn’t just part of the corpse, a video follows where Brukhonenko does a series of tests. He shines a light in dog’s eyes making it blink. He hits the table with a hammer and the dog’s head reacts. And last but not least, to make things even more gross, he feeds the dog head a small piece of cheese, which lands on the table at the other end of the esophageal tube. Enjoy!

Swatch bracelet watch

The idea for this watch is classic plastic bracelet, with incorporated lines inside the watch that show the current time. Those three lines are rotating around the watch and show the time, while the seconds line is going around all the time. It is a simple concept, atractive and eye-catching. Adjusting the clock is easy as the watch is the touchscreen. All you have to do is to touche the line, click the adjust icon and slide current time line to correct time. Design by Djordje Zivanovic.

new strange script

Rotor is an experimental script created by Simon Whitechapel to realize the concept of letters that literally move on the "page". It consists of pairs of letters in which the members of each pair are identical except for the way they move. In almost all pairs one member turns clockwise, the other anti-clockwise (c rocks first clockwise, then anti-clockwise). However, e turns a vertical figure-of-eight and u a horizontal one, and the only letter that is unambiguous when at rest is i, which consists of two "tadpoles" turning clockwise.

skyscraper that revolves once an hour

new type of swirling skyscraper is set to change city skylines forever. An Italian architect has revealed his ambitious plans to create 'dynamic towers', in which each floor fully rotates up to once an hour.
The first two innovative buildings will be built in Dubai and Moscow by the end of 2010, although the 80-floor Dubai tower is still awaiting planning permission. The brainchild behind the operation is David Fisher, owner of the Rotating Tower Technology Company. He said he was inspired to create the perpetual motion skyscrapers after soaking in the view from a friend's apartment in Manhattan. The £355million Dubai tower will be constructed by Mr Fisher's British company and rely on pre-sales for at least part of the costs.
However, investors may pause when they discover that Mr Fisher has never built a skyscraper before. Previously he has created marble bathroom suites for hotels.

World’s ugliest dog 2008

This year’s World’s Ugliest Dog competition was held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma. Twelve dogs battled for the title of world’s ugliest dog, and in the end only Gus came out on top.
Gus is a Chinese Crested, suffering from skin cancer, he only has three legs (one was amputated due to the skin tumor) and one eye (he lost the other in a battle with a tomcat) and no hair. He was adopted by a Jeanenne Teed and her daughter Janey after they had heard he was being kept in a crate in somebody’s garage.
For winning the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest, Gus got $1,600 ,which the owners say will go to his radiation treatment.

mother duck loses a battle to save her duckling

As a duck, trying to battle with a heron and force it to give up its quarry was always going to be a difficult task.
But as a mother, animals and humans will do anything for their offspring which is why this bird refused to let the heron fly off with one of her own without a fight.
These amazing pictures show, frame by frame, how the heron swooped on the duck and her family as they swam near Bray Harbour in County Wicklow.Unfortunately, the mother duck mission ended in tragedy when the predator ate up the duckling before her very eyes

Apartments on the coast

This complex was constructed as a low-income residence for young families and couples in the industrial district of Izola on the Slovenian coast. The project is simply called “Apartments on the coast” and it was designed by OFIS ( we presented another project made by them in this post - Tetris Apartments ). The striking development boasts beautiful views and makes smart use of solar shading and natural ventilation to regulate its interiors all year-round. Designed to mimic the rhythmic structure of honeycomb, the layout creates “dynamic elevations and offers privacy to the neighboring owners.” We’re also impressed by the collaborative effort behind the project which at its core was comprised of a 9-person design team including Rok Oman, Špela Videčnik, Martina Lipicer, Neža Oman, Nejc Batistič, Florian Frey, Marisa Baptista, and špela uršič

Washbasin Shaped as a Fossil

The Ammonite washbasin from HighTech that is shaped as a fossil. This unique design showcases the organic qualities of concrete. The washbasin can be produced in widths between 90 cm and 330 cm with a standard depth of 56 cm, and is available in several colors. It can be installed either with a table-mounted or wall-mounted tap. Now the design might be unique and cool, but if you would like to wash something it will be quite hard, and the cleaning part will also be a challenge.

The puppy born without front legs

This tiny puppy may have been born without front legs but there's no way that is holding her back.
Hope, the appropriately named two-legged Maltese puppy gets around by using a specially-designed device which features wheels from a model aeroplane.
The energetic pup uses her hind legs to boost her body forward onto her chest and operate the wheeled prosthetic limbs. The beloved pooch was born with only two legs and has small wriggling nubs where her front legs should be.
At first Hope moved around by hopping but experts said her her natural mode of moving eventually would damage her bones and spine.
The wheeled device was created by orthotist David Turnbill free of charge with makeshift shoulder joints connected to model airplane wheels.Hope was taken in by Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA when she was six weeks old.
When the puppy grows bigger she will need to have another device made for her.

Man spends 15 years building model of Paris

Gerard Brion shows off his in-Seine creation – a model of Paris built out of rubbish in his flower beds.
The Frenchman, 29, has spent 15 years crafting landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Sacré Coeur out of old concrete blocks, baby food jars and soup tins.
His garden in Vaissac in the South of France is now a tourist attraction.

Gerard said: “It took a lot of patience and concentration, but it was worth it.”
