The tragic love affair of the Ethiopian princess Aida, the works of the well-known British sculptor Antony Gormley or the classical music concerts at the Schubertiade Hohenems – the Bodensee-Vorarlberg region is a paradise for culture lovers.
The Bregenz Festival (July 22 to August 23) will feature a production on the floating stage – the opera “Aida“. Giuseppe Verdi’s monumental opera Aida follows on from Puccini’s passionate Tosca as the opera on the floating stage in the summer of 2009 and 2010. The story of the tragic love affair between the Ethiopian princess Aida – brought to the Nile as a slave – and the Egyptian commander Radames was enthusiastically acclaimed at its premiere in Cairo in 1871, with Aida subsequently becoming one of the most popular and most performed works in the opera repertoire.
