1-September 27, 2007—A striking image of seaweed shows the complexity of even the simplest organisms. Seen here is Irish moss—Chondrus crispus—a common Atlantic red alga that is routinely harvested for its carrageenan
2-It may look like a strange insect , but this is actually a CT image revealing the delicate structures underlying the human nose. The multicolored pockets, seen in a cutaway from below the nose looking up, are the paranasal sinuses—the air-filled spaces in the skull that are the bane of many an allergy sufferer
3-Metal with the consistency of ribbon garnered engineering graduate student Adam Siegel and chemist George M. Whitesides of Harvard University an honorable mention in the photography category of the 2007 International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge. The pair created this image by injecting molten solder into a tiny silicone channel.
4-A still image from a 3-D animation shows how nicotine stimulates nerve impulses to the pleasure center of the brain. Donna DeSmet and Jason Guerrero of Hurd Studios won the first-place prize in the noninteractive media category of the 2007 International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge for the video, titled "Nicotine: The Physiologic Mechanism of Tobacco Dependence."

math tricks
Multiply by 11
Take the original number and imagine a space between the two digits (in this example we will use 52:
5_2
Now add the two numbers together and put them in the middle
5_(5+2)_2
That is it - you have the answer: 572.
If the numbers in the middle add up to a 2 digit number, just insert the second number and add 1 to the first:
9_(9+9)_9
(9+1)_8_9
10_8_9
1089 - It works every time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quick Square
If you need to square a 2 digit number ending in 5, you can do so very easily with this trick. Mulitply the first digit by itself + 1, and put 25 on the end. That is all!
252 = (2x(2+1)) & 25
2 x 3 = 6
625
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Multiply by 5
Take any number, then divide it by 2 (in other words, halve the number). If the result is whole, add a 0 at the end. If it is not, ignore the remainder and add a 5 at the end. It works everytime:
2682 x 5 = (2682 / 2)
2682 / 2 = 1341 (whole number so add 0)
13410
Let’s try another:
5887 x 5
2943.5 (fractional number (ignore remainder, add 5)
29435
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Multiply by 9
This one is simple - to multiple any number between 1 and 9 by 9 hold both hands in front of your face - drop the finger that corresponds to the number you are multiplying (for example 9×3 - drop your third finger) - count the fingers before the dropped finger (in the case of 9×3 it is 2) then count the numbers after (in this case 7) - the answer is 27.

Blue Eyes....puzzle
Blue Eyes:The Hardest Logic Puzzle in the World
A group of people with assorted eye colors live on an island. They are all perfect logicians -- if a conclusion can be logically deduced, they will do it instantly. No one knows the color of their eyes. Every night at midnight, a ferry stops at the island. If anyone has figured out the color of their own eyes, they [must] leave the island that midnight. Everyone can see everyone else at all times and keeps a count of the number of people they see with each eye color (excluding themselves), but they cannot otherwise communicate. Everyone on the island knows all the rules in this paragraph.
On this island there are 100 blue-eyed people, 100 brown-eyed people, and the Guru (she happens to have green eyes). So any given blue-eyed person can see 100 people with brown eyes and 99 people with blue eyes (and one with green), but that does not tell him his own eye color; as far as he knows the totals could be 101 brown and 99 blue. Or 100 brown, 99 blue, and he could have red eyes. The Guru is allowed to speak once (let's say at noon), on one day in all their endless years on the island. Standing before the islanders, she says the following:
"I can see someone who has blue eyes."
Who leaves the island, and on what night?
And lastly, the answer is not "no one leaves."

Scientists create transparent frog
This transparent frog was created by a research team led by professor Masayuki Sumida at Hiroshima University’s Institute for Amphibian Biology. They weren't just trying to make a froggy freak - the idea behind it is that the transparency will allow the status of internal organs and blood vessels to be observed by lab scientists while the frog is alive and without having to dissect it.

back to front shoe
This is, in fact, the world's first back-to-front shoe, courtesy of designer Marc Jacobs.
Whether you think it is a gimmick too far or a piece of fashion genius depends how far up the fashionista ladder you are - on a scale of one to crazy
Marc Jacobs shoe twist turns conventional fashion ( not to mention orthopaedic) wisdom on its head and places the heel at the front.
A chunky, four-inch heel nestles horizontally just under the ball of the foot. Where you'd expect a heel, there is nothing but fresh air.
The centre of gravity therefore is somewhere under the arch of the foot, forcing the whole body to tilt forward.
